Thanks to Wejo for allowing me to post this. I wanted to let Chicago area runners know about the Share Your Soles 5/10K coming up next Saturday May 17th at 9:00 AM. ALL proceeds benefit a non-profit organization called Share Your Soles (www.shareyoursoles.org).
The organization collects used shoes and distributes them to those in need around the world. Obviously runners are a great source of shoes for us. Seemingly "unwearable" shoes for a seasoned runner are still quite fit for someone in a 3rd world country who has never owned a pair in their life.
Its a small race, but promises to be a good experience:
- USTAF certified 5 and 10K courses (I understand course length accuracy is of the utmost importance)
- Start/finish on the lawn outside Soldier Field
- $100 gift certificates for 4 overall winners (both M and F, 5K and 10K), and nice medals for age group winners (places 1-3)
- Its not exactly a high caliber field, so 'decent' runners will have a great shot at awards (high 17's won the 5K last year)
- There is a 5K walk available as well if you have spouses/kids/significant others who don't run
Registration is on the website (www.shareyoursoles.org). Even if you can't make it - perhaps you might spread the word to members of a running club, co-workers, or anyone else who might be interested.
Please feel free to email me at the above address with any questions. Thanks!
