breaking 2 min in the 800 OR
breaking 4:30 in the mile
breaking 2 min in the 800 OR
breaking 4:30 in the mile
Those seem like pretty equivalent times for a high school boy. So in that context I\'d just say it depends upon what kind of athlete you are and what your training is, but pretty close to a toss up.
Seeing as this is a board made up mostly of college and post-college distance runners though, in that context 2:00 would be significantly tougher than 4:30.
That is actually a very good question. I would say the 2 min. 800m. Those are the times that I want to beat this year. Anyone have any good workouts to get those?
agreed. 2min. i did both in hs, but not by a ton. 2min happened later and i think was tougher. (well, for me)
In HS I broke 4:30 as a freshman and 2:00 as a soph. But that could be a function of my development and growth, and my speed vs. endurance at different ages instead of the 800 barrier being harder.
i think breaking 2 is easier. I ran 1:58 as a soph but only 4:31 where as junior year i finally broke 4:30 (4:23) and ran 1:55.
Mercier gives 2:00 800m = 4:25 mile, or about 4:23 1600m.
I concur.
I have broken 2 (1:58), but not 4:30 (not even close). I guess I was always more a 4/8 kinda guy anyway.
Well I have run 4:30 in the mile (converted from 1500), but only 2:06 in the 800. I focus on the 5K so that might explain why.

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
