I want to quit eating sweets entirely. How long does it take to get over the hump?

Assuming you're male (it is letsrun after all), which is a plus to start with (blah blah, I'm not sexist, but there are more physiological predispositions to sweets for women). I gave up regular sweets long ago, and I remember that it took a few months. Now that I eat better, I think a faster way is to force a switch to natural, unprocessed foods as much as possible. If you eat freshly prepared meals with lots of fruits, vegetables, grains, etc., then anything processed and sugary will just be overwhelming.
This also works for salt - I find almost any prepared foods to be way too salty, and when I cook for others they complain that I don't use enough.
I have stopped eating dessert completely for 4 years now. It started with cutting soda, than i limited my sweets to only so much a day. After a while i got sick of trying to remeber if i had something earlier in the day so i just kind of stopped altogether.
I dont crave sweets anymore because i forgot what they taste like. But when you go out with friends you feel real left out. And they always are asking questions as to why.
I am pretty much over not having desserts. After the seasons over i am going to end this 4 year thing. My advice to you would dont cut it off just be moderate its not worth it to cut it completly trust me.
Moderation not Abstinence
