Do elite runners train in racing flats, light trainers, or standard high-mileage trainers for most of their mileage? I assume they'll run in flats for some of their workouts, but what shoes do they spend most of their time in?

From what I've seen, a majority seem to wear regular trainers whnn not racing.
Most of the westerners will run in standard trainers. Virtually all the Japanese runners will do all their running in road racers. And the Africans will train in just about anything given to them.
shoes are a thing of the past, everything is done bare-foot now.
It helps that the 'average' Japanese elite is 1.68 and 50 kilos in weight. They have a mechanical advantage to 'get away' with wearing light shoes.
