Better coach.
Ritz great-great-great grandmother was actually black, so Ritz is technically 1/256th black.
drugs?
Suddenly better, why? Because he finished a minute and a half back of Bekele? Probably worth a hair under 28:00 for 10k on the track using an equivalent comparison, which is something Torres was capable of as a junior in college. 22:40ish 8K on the road? Torres has been running those efforts for years.
i hate to agree with mobile9 but ... he speaks the truth.

How is Torres better? He was National Champion in the 10k years ago. He couldn't win Nationals this year if he had a head start.
I love how people automatically point to a brand spanking new coach for a reason behind a good/bad performance. Steve Jones is not doing anything different than what Jorge has been doing for year after year. If you really want to see the affects of Jonesy's coaching...look at his other group. Any significant improvements? After how many years? That's a better judge of his ability as a coach; not a sudden 15 second improvement from an incredibly consistent cross country runner, like you see with Jorge Torres. How many times has Torres "blown up" in a cross country race? Not often.
shut up bradly!

Julian was spectacular under him. Carney, Torres x 2, Cabada, and those other guys are getting much better. Sorry, but reality sucks!

Who coached Carney to his 27:40 10k? He hasn't gotten any better since then.
I don't have a dog in this fight, but in the spirit of the original topic of the thread, neither has Torres, yet.

Carney ran his 2743 last year. That's a bit unfair of a statement to make. He did run 2252 in the US 8k, he ran 62:21 to win the US half marathon champ, and took 6th at US XC. His 2:16 marathon debut wasn't so hot...but neithor was Dathans 2:14 debut the year before. So he's no dathan or Hall...but he's had his best fall/winter ever. So i'd say yes he's gotten better and it's too early to tell if he will haev a better track season.
carney has never been coached by jonesy. hudson still coaches him.
'Way to liven up the thread.
who said Carney was being coached by Jonesy? LOL
