i agree without a doubt that the 1.49 is untouchable.
a dirty Marion never got close....end of case right there.

Michael Johnson's 19.32 200. When he broke this record he went under his own record by more than 3 tenths and all the great american talent at 200 right now is not really getting closer. I would be surprised if anyone ever goes under 19.50 in my lifetime.
FloJo's 10:49 has got to be the most unbreakable record on the books. The only person who's come within .24 of it is Marion Jones, the immensely talented superstar who also happened to be on a cocktail of about half a dozen PED's.
And, it's been argued a million times, but the only reason the 3k record seems so hard is because it is not an event that most people train for or even race often. El G certainly could've broken it. It's true that Lagat and Ngeny came close to El G's records, but they are two of the greatest ever and they had the tremendous benefit of running right behind El G. Don't get me wrong - the 3k record is very very good, and might be around for quite some time if Bekele doesn't get it within the next couple of years, but 3:26.00 isn't going anywhere any time soon, and it is a far more popular event.
If you include school records, the Oregon 800 record is obviously not up for grabs. Washington State has some pretty sick school records.
How about the Virgina HS state mile record? I'm pretty sure they list 3:53 as the record.
1:53.28 women's 800m.
Kractokilova was so juiced, I think she actually grew a pair.
That one and Wang's women's 10k will never be touched clean.

Too much money to be made. (and yes, -The Killer
Alan Webb entered college with the ability to break 351, Nick willis ran 332 1500 while in college. So there have been guys who choose to run in college with the capability of breaking that kind of time. As for the 800...no one has broken 142 in a while anywhere let alone in college. So i'd say that one is a safe bet. That's MUCH stronger then a 351 in the mile.

I might throw in the 3:50 1500 with that one. I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see Soboleva run 3:54 by the end of the summer.
The one that will never, ever be broken is Randy Barne's 75' 10.75" shot put. You simply cannot slip those kinds of anabolics past the testers and/or law enforcement anymore. Kevin Toth only got within 18 inches of it before they busted him (and he was ridiculously obvious to anyone paying attention).
I think this post kinda got off of what I intended it to be. All the records that everyone has highlighted, even the ridiculous ones, (19.32, 7:20 etc) WILL be broken within the next 20 years or so. It is almost certain. We see it every 5 years or so when some new sesational freak comes along (Morcelli to ElG, Auoita to Geb to Bekele...) but, what are the odds of some athlete coming along and breaking a SCHOOL record like the ones I mentioned. WRs will always be broken because everyone is eligible. The KU and Oregon records I highlighted (3:51 and 1:41.77) are only open to athletes with that university's uniform on. That is why they are so "UNbreakable." I should also mention that I think Rudy Chapa's HSR of 28:32 is going to be there for another generation at least.

You have a point with the 7:20 (not so sure about the 19:32, but we'll let it slide), but what about 10.49, 1:53, 3:50, 29:32? Those are here to stay for a good while, quite possible forever (especially the first two).
all records will someday be broken.
What makes 10.49 so far out of reach isn't even drugs so much as having 3.3mps wind at your back, but having the ananometer read "0,0mps".
Her next best mark was 10.61 which, while still way out there, is a lot closer to what Arron and Ashford have run (10.73 and 10.76). I'd call those two your legit 1-2.
And while 8:06 is far out of reach (by about 10sec), 29:31 isn't impossible. I think one of the Ethiopians with 8:16, 14:12 ability could double back 14:45s.
Most unbreakable record? It's got to be me! Not the 100 points, anyone could do that. I'm talking about the 20,000 women.
Go ahead and try to beat that. The next best I've heard is about 5,000.
Henry Rono's 5000m collegiate record. 13:08??? I could be a little off on the record.
I'm so glad that somebody brought up the Rono stuff!! Those records (WSU school records anyway) are going to be there for a loooooong time. He hit 7:32, 8:05, 13:08, and 27:22 in about 45 days while still competing for Wazoo. Those NCAA records might go down someday but, how you gonna get a kid to do that at WSU again? Pretty incredible.

I think Obea Moore's sophmore 400 record of 45.14 is a good one.
Michael Granville's 800m high school records...1:45 or 1:46???
At George Mason, the school records for the 400, 800 and 1500 are 44.5, 1:44.5 and 3:31.
These records are good on their own, but even more unattainable since the AD got rid of the coaches and the program is now an after thought.

His 1:46 isn't bad. How about Michael Carter's 81 foot SP toss?
Doesn't Bikila hold the WR for a barefoot marathon?

David Kimani ran 13:10 while in college.
If that record gets broken it will probably be by someone not born in the USA.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
