Agree about not seeing College runners stay in school thus keeping many college records safe but a splinter might pop a good one.

Speaking of World Records, 1:41.11 is to me the most underrated record on the books. While many running scholars contend that it is a "soft" record, I think they are missing a key component for what it takes to run a superfast 800m.

I've heard a speech where the speaker said, "The 800m WR is soft. If you took a 44.5 400m man and trained him in a Lydiard fashion, the right athlete could be trained to a 1:39.XX."

I completely disagree with that statement, because a 44.5 400m runner that trained lydiard would become a 46.5 400m runner by the time he had the necessary endurance. That's what makes the 800m such a beastly event. You have to have a great balance to train for it properly.

Abebe Bikila's back to back olympic marathon victories might be equalled, but it's hard to imagine someone winning three.

It's one of those records, like Johnny Vander Meer's consecutive no-hitters, that's much, much harder to break than to tie.

Radcliffe was the closest to sniff that record and she was still 30 seconds off.

I would contend, as posted previously, it is one of the hardest records to achieve. When is the last time someone broke 1:42. Even breaking 1:43 rarely occurs. If it broken I doubt a former 400m person will do it.

I doubt that 10.49 will ever go. They're gonna have to take that one back before it's broken. After that, 8:06 (because at least that one didn't benefit from wind). Then 21.36 and 3:50.

1:53.9, but that is the most obvious 'roid record in the history of the sport. Jarmelia was juicin' beyond belief. If she is still alive and has her original liver, I would be very surprised.

Our high school high jump record is 7'7". I don't think it will be broken.

Daniel Komen's two mile world record:

-7:58.61

And his 3000m indoor world record:

-7:24.90

Daniel Komen is the only man to have ever run two back-to-back sub-four minute miles. AND he's done it twice.

Personally I think El G's mile record is better than the 3K or 2-mile. People run the mile more often, yet only three people have ever broken 3:46, and even then you're not really close. Komen raced the 3K ALOT, and El G would have broken the record if he had tried it one or two more times. If someone ever breaks the mile WR, then I would feel very confident that they could break the 3K/2-mile WRs.

Mottram says he can run sub 8:00 in the 2 mile. Not saying that means it will happen or that he can do it, just saying that in the mind of at least 1 athlete, the 2 mile WR is within reach.

Well, yeah. It has been.

Who runs the mile outside of the US? Can you find a major European meet outside of Oslo that regularly has a one mile race? Brussels had one for women last year but that's a rarity. London and Rome will do one occasionally but 1500s are all over the place.

And when El G ran 3:43 there was a guy 0.3sec behind him. No one was near Komen when he ran 7:20. That's back to back 3:40s, or essentially a 7:56 2mile.

I vote for the women's 100m. nobody has got anywhere close to FloJo right? I am amazed she never had a positive test...
