December 06 I just about lost a couple toes running a XC race in the Chicago area. The temp was single digits, well under 0 with wind. Lost my left shoe about 3-3.5 miles into the 8k and could not get it back on due to ice. Ended up only running about 13-14 minutes. By the time I finished my toes were frozen and I had to be taken to the hospital. Foot had severe frost bite and had to be on crutches for a month, no running for 2. Not fun to say the least. Dr. said a few more minutes and i could have very easily lost toes.
gotta meet this guy!
Now, that is real genetic talent. Yet i like how the story says he graudually acclimatized to colder and colder temperatures...
WOW.
But... but... humans are meant to wear big bulky cushioned shoes! He's going to wear out his knees! Someone stop him! OH NOs!!!
This guy has been all around TV lately. He was on the Today show in December and then on 20/20 last week.
After running him through all kinds of tests they found that his bones, muscles, skin, nerves, fat, etc. is exactly the same as everyone else's. What makes him special is that for some reason his brain reacts differently when his body is confronted with the cold. Normal people naturally conserve heat to their internal organs and brain, leaving their fingers, toes, nose, ears, etc. to freeze. This guy continues to spread the wealth all over his body despite the cold.
The tests on him were conducted at U of Minnesota. It was hilarious watching him walk around the campus with a headband and shorts on while students looked like Eskimos.
Nice metaphor Ice boy: "spreading the wealth."Wonder how fast he can run. Any more info? How about heat?Any videos to be seen? Like courtesy U of Minnesotqa? Thanks to OP for posting.
