The wind was unlike anything I've ever raced in, so that might have something to do with the slow times. Sub 45:00 today, in those coniditons, was smoking.

"It is interesting that you pick this race, which in my opinion is a really weak field running fairly poorly on the mens side, to illustrate the american men's depth. 45 minutes for the 5th american is not too good. when is the last time this race was won this slowly? and on a day when it is 50 degrees, usually more like 70 on race day."
You're talking about almost 30 mph winds, numbnuts...I'd like to see you try and race fast...
I agree that this is a weak field in comparison to a lot of the other road championships but that is exactly why it shows depth. This was very much the B crew of american distance men, no meb hall ritz goucher teg webb lagat but you have 12 in closer to each other then two of the absolute A crew of american women.
And as far as the times like blowmedown pointed out and the video showed and has been mentioned on this thread a few times in addition they were running in 30 plus mph winds, so the times sucked.
I am having a little trouble with the website, but I can't seem to find Sara Slattery's results. Did she pull out? If not, anyone know what she ran?
Didnt know about the wind, but Ive run under 44, thanks for the jab though.
I ran in the race and the 30 mph winds were for only 7 miles of the race. The last 2 miles on the bridge were easily 50+ mph. The people in front of me as well as myself couldn't run in a straight line. People were zig-zagging accross the road as the wind blew and literally almost falling over. One top 30 runner told me that a porta-potty slid all the way across the road in front of him as he was racing
At 3 miles I say a guy hurdles a portapody that was being blown around in the road.
crazy wind. getting blown around on thebridge was fun also.
great job to carlson!

Considering the conditions, it's no surprise a guy from Fargo won.
Go Reid!!!
you certainly haven't run under 44 in Jacksonville. you can't count your local turkey trot 9.1 mile either...sorry. only a wanna-be would be critical of this field, in those conditions. you have no idea what you're talking about - which is evident.
even in the very slight possibility that you have run a legitimate 15k under 44 minutes, you show very little class by criticizing these athletes, especially without knowing the full reason for the so-called slow times...
letsrun can be so annoying
not to mention the fact that there were two olympians in the top 5. yea, that field sucks
there was another portapottey that went straight up in to the air about five feet as if it was a rocket launching into outer space
The wind at the race was really, REALLY bad. I couldn't believe that people ran that fast in those conditions. Pretty amazing!
I have run sub 44 in jax, a while ago. What I meant was that this field did not have one of the bigger front runners in it to make it go. Before considering the wind I would have liked to see somebody press more early like the way shay did when he won it upsetting alan and abdi. Browne will never lead a race early (i have no problem with this but that is absolutely true) and it didnt seem that there was another individual who wanted to press which is really what an early in the season 15k is for.
Now when you factor in the wind there is no reason why you should follow this plan, so I conceed that the conditions dictated the race, and believe me, I know how hard it is to win a race and congratulate Andrew, an american title is a covetted thing. As I said, I didnt know it was windy, just saw that it was 50 and I never saw a day that cool down there. In actuallity I agree that the depth of American distance running is pretty good, but I maintain that this race was not really an illustration of it.
In my book when you have terrible conditions you dont get to convert it to what you would have run, you just throw it out and go again in a few weeks. The effort is there, and the results dont show it, but at the end of the day a 45 minute 15k is not a resume builder, these guys will just shrug their shoulders, go to doug's house for the beer truck, and hopefully run will in new york next week or when ever they race next.
There was one Olympian in the top 5. Sell will be an Olympian next summer, but he is not an Olympian until he runs the Olympic games. Please understand, this is not my rule, it is the code they live by.
it's guys like you I avoid while having a beer at doug's
no you dont.
What a mess that finish line was. The announcer either didnt know or didnt care about announcing the names and backgrounds of the top runners. He seemed very bored to be there. And whats with the balloons flying in front of the clock?
Man.. you really need to get over yourself.... ROFLYour post is so full of $hit its like Blah blah blah. Im a puss because I didnt run blah blah blah. end of message..
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
