Im from Scotland and am looking to come to Grad school in the US in August.
I started a 3 year degree in Sep 2004 and finished it in August 2007. Whilst at uni I only competed in xc for 2 years, outdoor track 1 year and didnt do any indoors.
I took this year out to work and train before going to America. Was looking to earn a bit of money and improve my times a bit to try and get into a better uni.
Now I know when you start higher education you open a 5 year window of eligibility meaning that it theory I could only compete in the NCAA for 1 year.
However I have heard some people talk of a couple of ways I could get 2 years eligibility.
1.) By saying that I took this year out to train for the Olympics. I also heard that what times you run are irrelevant for this, you could be an 18 min 5ker if you like. Ive ran low 14 mins for 5k so am decent but certainly wont be going to the olympics this year.
2.) Asking for an extra year because you were injured for one of your undergrad years. I was injured all my first year with calf troubles.
Id really like to have 2 years of NCAA eligibility so any advice would be greatfully recieved.
