And Flaghole will tell you "but the government reports that inflation is low"
Inflation is running at ~10%
The dollar is dropping
Oil is up
Gasoline is up
Commodities are up (silver, gold, wheat, corn, crude, milk ...)
Cheap crap from China is up

I am concerned at how cheese prices are skyrocketing. Please don't make me switch to Velveeta.
Are these whole-wheat bagels?
Sure you did.

Aha, there's the silver lining to my fairly recently discovered gluten intolerance: spending 100% less on bagels this year.
Flagpole, the OP implied NYC in using the word "midtown". You're in the same region of the country where my first couple decades transpired so I realize you simply don't know better, but Lenders and its ilk are not considered bagels here, any more than Mogen David 20/20 is considered wine in say Burgundy. Better, in this town, to scale back on rent/mortgage and move from one's sprawling 400 square foot palace to a more reasonable 250 square foot estate than to resort to frozen imitation bagels.
Dude, I know all about bagels in New York, and I know that New Yorkers turn their noses up at Lender's (by the way, you can get them frozen OR just refrigerated). That's why I said either eat the Lender's OR work more and create a liquid account that earns money so that he can go buy the preferred bagels. I may live here in Ohio now, but I've lived in Michigan, California, and Maryland also and have been in every state in the US except for Hawaii and Alaska. I don't pretend to know everything about every sub culture in the US, but most people with any sense know that bagels from NYC are much different from bagels from the grocery store.
You don't live in Maryland, but I bet you've heard of the blue crabs from there, or CHOWDA! from Boston or crawfish from Louisiana.

...and believe me, I never went back to the gal who gave 'em to me! You hooked up with her too, before the lovely Mrs. Flagpole Willy? Sorry to hear that.
