I can't go run .2m and claim it's the .2m world record cause no one else measured or timed one before me.

I'm sure that Daniel Komen is livid with the attention Bekele got for his 8:04 non-WR-but-best-mark-ever-recorded. Oh wait, Komen also holds the non-WR-but-best-mark-ever-recorded for 2 miles outdoors. Yeah, that 7:58 2mile "world best" is a bullshit mark, too, huh?

The same for Bekele's 4:49.99i 2000m from last year or Defar's 8:57 2mile -- meaningless,bullshit non-WRs-but-best-marks-ever-recorded.

Fewer than 10 years ago, there were no marathon WRs. Guess those were all bullshit marks, too. Because the 0.2m distance has the same history behind it as 2 miles, the DMR or the marathon, right?

The significant difference in this case is that the DMR isn't run outside the United States, hence calling it a World Record/Best is a bit of a stretch.

Just that it's not a world record, and it isn't. You can't just call something a world record cause you consider it the best-mark-ever. If it's not a recorded world record, it's not. As the other guy remarked, DMR isn't even run outside the US with frequency.

So I'd like to announce I've set the world record in the .2 meter run. I just did it in .1ms

that's what you think, I set up the FAT on the track and measured the .2m distance so that it'd be correct.

Actually....it kind of IS a world record. There are records kept (like every other race), and it is in fact the world record.
