I am injured, and forced to try to maintain fitness in the pool for a while. It's a hamstring pull, which aqua-running sort of aggravates enough to not want to do it much. I have settled on just swimming laps at an effort level that is reasonably high and gets my heart rate up. It's definitely maintaining a significantly higher BPM than easy runs - when I check it, it is always above 155-160 and my easy pace HR is about 135-140.
Anyway, I know swimming isn't running, but I'm sot of looking for a general effort level comparison. If I swim 3000m daily without stopping, at the aforementioned decent effort level, how effective is it in keeping up my fitness level? Is there something else I could be doing? The bike bothers my injury as well, so that's out.
Thanks for any thoughts and/or ideas. This really sucks and I want to avoid losing any hard-earned gains I have been making.
