Figured I'd get that out in the open. The guy beats 2 decent Kenyan's to win his marathon debut in sub 2:12 and there's hardly a peep about it on these boards what gives?

Probably because half the board spends their time shredding Salazar, Nike, and the Oregon Project. Now that they been rendered incorrect in one instance, they're busy sitting home thinking of new topics.
Congrats to Dan, I remember watching him shred Patriot Leaguers in the mile 5 years ago. How far he has come.
Excellent debut, one of the best ever for an American. Frankly I don't think that many folk's are surprised based on his recent effort at New Haven and his all-around good performances on the road & track over the last 3 years.
Seems to me that his success in this race is based on his consistent improvement over the last few years. He has been on the right track for quite a while. Anything that the NIKE project has added on top is a bonus.
Dan Browne aside, the High Altitude Play Station is still looney. Rush out and buy one while they last!
where did browne run in college?
Army
A big congrats to Mr. Browne. It doesn't surprise me as I find this guy always races to win and never seems intimidated.

The best thing about Browne's performance is that he wasn't satisfied with the American championship. Dude was racing for the win. Same with Hauser. Saw him at 21 miles and he was looking up the road like he wanted to roll up the top 3. Didn't happen, but he had the fire in his eyes.
In the post-race comments, neither one sounded completely satisfied. They both think that they will go faster. I happen to think that they're right.
Congrats to these guys for their excellent races (esp. Browne). I think everyone is hopeful that the distance scene will return to a semblance of the late 70s/early 80s, and although these performances were great (esp. for debuts), we are eagerly expecting/hoping for more. I think they are looking for more as well, so that is exciting!
DAN JUST KICKS FUCKING ASS!!!! WHATEVER THEY ARE DOING IN PORTLAND, THEY ARE DOING IT RIGHT!

It is always good to see someone who is not so gaunt and skinny to beat all the guys who are so gaunt and skinny.
Yeah, Dan Browne and Brad Hauser and Jan Jursevich did pretty well. Its nice to see that we're starting to get a "second tier" of marathon guys who are running 2:14-2:18, and then can develop from there. Dan Browne did run very well. He's not a legitimate world beater just yet, but if he can push his 10k time down under 27:30 or 27:20, then really go after the marathon, he'll be super tough. I think Salazar knows what he's doing, keeping him from burning up too fast but not holding him back.

Salazar has no clue what worked and what was a waste of time and effort. It would be really interesting to see what training/gimmics Salazar tries next time.
By the way.......
Did anyone read that brutal interview in Runners World. Half of the questions included "How does it feel?". Why do we continue to read that Rag??
He beat a couple of masters...big deal...everyone here is up in arms about the Kenyans in college being overage (with only circumstantial evidence). So where are they now when Browne is beating up on 40+ guys? There's a big difference between 2:11 and 2:05....2:11 isn't too bad though...for an American..or a master...wake me up when an American is ready to go toe to toe with the big boys.
