I am running the 1200 leg in a DMR recently, and I was wondering what would be a good time to shoot for. Last week I ran 9:48 for 3k and I ran a 5k in 16:32 this past fall. Also, last week I ran an 800m time trial in 2:16. Any ideas?

3:28-3:36
you are not fast enough to run a good 1200m time
To help you gauge, my son just ran a 3:04 1200m split in the DMR tonight as a college freshman.

I concur
This post was removed.
if you can run 3.24 that would be awesome as it's your 800-pace over another lap. it will be hard though, good luck
you seem like an endurance guy, i'd be shootin' for 3:30

It's probably a girl you fool (and other fools) in which case she is a lot better than your son who wouldn't be very good even if he held that for another 400m. Which he couldn't. Now go watch another video of him winning some small town meet and live through him a little more. I pity you all.
a girl that ran sub 17 5k this fall.....
Since he is asking what would be a good time FOR HIM to shoot for, some of the negative comments here just illustrate a lack of literacy by you folks.
For the OP, I think 3:30 is reasonable. Try going out in 70/2:20 and go from there. Good luck.
What? I think you need to check your own literacy, buddy.
so (if he's a guy) hes not as fast as your son. That doesn't mean what he is doing isn't important. Your son running 3:04 is a great time, but compared to some better college guys who can run quite a bit lower its not all that hot. But what he is doing is still important. He wants a legit answer because 1200 is a rarely contested distance.
You've got a good 5k time (if that is legit), but I would be doubtful that you are in similiar shape right now if you are in 9:48 shape (16:20 pace, on a track as opposed to what would probably be XC). I would go out in 35-36's, and aim for a 1:46-1:47 first half, and then if you feel good go for it.
btw before you guys "call me out" my time (guestimate) would be around 3:10, not fast but doesn't mean I can't ask advice on how to run it.
Sub 2:45
If you can hit your 800 pr and blast a 29 last 400, you're good.

Umm, no.

That's a pretty slow time for a college guy. My middle school daughter ran a 2:58 tonight 1200m split in the DMR.
'Fall down drunk'- read the original post again you fool!
Not many high school girls, let alone middle school girls, can run under 1:00 for 400m. Are you sure your daughter didn't run the 800m split??

3/10
Quit trolling you don't know what your talking about, if a girl is running 16:30 5ks and 9:48 3ks, they already know what a good 1200m time is. Any time they run would be faster than any other chick at that meet. And you didn't even answer the question. A 3:00 is exceptional, but in order to run that you need to have good basic speed. A 3:10-3:20 is pretty good for a hs athlete.
Colin Sahlman runs 1:45 and Nico Young runs 1:47 in the 800m tonight at the Desert Heat Classic
