I do most of my training in lightweight trainers such as the DS Trainer. Lately, though, I have been doing about half of my running either barefoot or in XC flats (Nike Zoom Waffle Racer 3). I really like the feel of running in less shoe, but am wondering if transitioning completely to flats would be a bad decision. I have no need to, I run great in trainers, but I feel smoother, faster, and more comfortable during and after runs in flats. I just have a huge fear of only one thing: stress fracture. My XC flats have absolutely no soft cushioning, so even though i feel great now, I feel like i may regret it later, and by then it will be too late to take back my decision. What do you think? Is this a bad idea? Will running in this type of shoe increase my risk of stress fracture (Seems like a no-brainer that the answer would be yes because there is no cushion...which is why i'm so hesitant)...? Thanks!
