I did 8x1km in 2:58 with 400m jog rest today. I'm thinking I could run sub 15 min right now for 5k? Is this a good estimate or am I completely out to lunch.

you are having a turkey for lunch, huh?
I have an idea. How about you go run a 5k and try to break 15. Then you will know if you are out to lunch.
Man, I haven't seen one these 5k prediction threads in a while. Doing quick math, you're-i think-at 4:48 pace for these so it should be close.
I know people who can run that session and not sub 15, but then again everyone is different and none of those people would be very far from 15min.
How much rest are you taking in between each rep?
I think you would be pretty close! How did the workout feel?
Have you tried this kind of workout with 200m jog rest?
Your are good to go
It felt pretty decent. the 400 jog took around 2:30 or so. On Monday I did an 8k tempo in 26:20 followed by 10x200 in 28-29 with 200 jog.
When is the race? If you can start with fresh legs, you should definitely be able to do it!
Taking you put a few miles in Id be pretty dure youd break 15 mins yes, taking those sessions were done on track and not a 1K you measured on a roasd or in you back garden...
If you are young youd be garanreed sub 15, as generally the older you are the better you are at training but not necessarly in racing...
No this was done on the track and to answer the other question, yes I have put base in running 75-80 mile weeks the last 7 weeks straight. I took a week off after cross country and before that the mileage was around 70. To be completely honest I'm a 1500m runner who may attmept in a month to run a good 5km.
John5656,
you've done similar workouts to me when I ran 14:52. what's your mile PR? that could give a little more indication.
I think you can break 15 minutes man. let us know
I'm basically a 1500m guy also and have ran a 15.05 5km and am pretty sure I could nail that work out with the long rests. The trouble with the 5km is you don't get 2.30 min after every km to jog a lap, sounds obvious but thats the truth. You'll feel easy for 5-6 laps then your body will be thinking it is time to switch off for a bit before going again. If your kms were under 2.55 I'd say you'd feel comfortable enough a 3min/km to dip under 15, but it will be damn close only doing the session in 2.58s and you may just miss out unless you nail the 4th km.
good luck dude
You're somewhere in then 14:50-15:00 I'm guessing. Get into a good pace early and hang on. If you feel good, push the last k or so. Good luck.

My mile pr isn\\\'t very fast at all. Its 4:15. I had some injury problems the last 3 years and just got back into the swing of things last year. I ran 3:59 for 1500m when I was 17 my junor year in high school so I\\\"m sure there will be a good breakthrough this year considering thats is my main focus. I also in cross ran 25:14 for 8k so there is some enduracne but I do understand that maybe I need a bit more to do any damage in a 5km. Thanks for everyones input, greatly appreciated.
we have similiar stats:
my PRs:
4:14 mile
8:26 3k
14:52 5k
24:52 8k xc
If you have run 4:15 for the mile and 25:00 for 8k u should be able to break 15:00 easy.... If you can't you're either a whimp or you're lying about your PR'S
