Congratulations to the US women who place in the top 10, especially Jill who is the US Champion. I don't want to take anything away from the women who trained hard and competed here. I give them a lot of credit. My comments are not directed at them because they are competing.
But I have to wonder what is going on here, 4 of the top 10 US women were masters in the freaking US Championship Marathon. 6 of the top 12 in the US Marathon Championships were masters. What a lack of depth in the field. Can you think of any other sport that masters could compete at a national level?
I know some of the US best women weren't here and will be at New York and Chicago and it isn't an Olympic year, but it does say something sad about the sport when so many masters can place so highly in a national championship race - the sport really lacks depth and isn't attracking many talented younger athletes.
where are the full women's results? onlineraceresults.com isn't working
