Dan ran great today with Chad and Phillemon pacing him. The weather was fairly decent (50s and overcast at the start) but it was very humid and foggy. It was great to see an American have such a great debut. With comparable weather in Chicago in two weeks, I think that course is probably 2-3 minutes faster. TCM isn't a tough course; it's just that the toughest part of it is from 20-23 miles. Eddie ran great, too! He was pretty pumped.

Don't you know the Army cut Teddy? Too slow
Well guys, it is nice to see that you have nothing good to say about people who ran today. At least Teddy finished and did not drop out when things got tough. He did not get cut from the Army team for being too slow, so how about you get your facts straight before you say something stupid like that.
Granted the Army guys get some nice accomidations, but they are still in the Army, and still have commitments to fill. There is always the possibility that they will have to go to war to protect your sorry ass, so you can post stupid, ignorant messages here.

I had heard that TCM is fairly fast, but the articles mention hills at the end (where they are most destructive), and a lot of people had slow second halves. How does TCM stck up to say, Chicago in terms of course speed?

flatliner: No comparison. TCM has rollers here and there with an occasional decent hill in the first 21 miles. Some people prefer that to the very flat Chicago course to break it up and get a bit of different muscle action going. At 21, however, there's a tough uphill followed by two miles of gradual uphill. You'd barely notice it if you didn't happen to be in the last 5 miles of a marathon. It's not really that bad if you are trained properly and pace yourself, but no way are not going to run fast miles through it.
In terms of how this affected Browne's time, I'd say having everyone keying off him for the last eight miles was a bigger factor. He was totally in charge of the race and dictating the pace when I saw him at 21. Being a novice, and wanting to win more than anything, it sounds like he decided to bide his time and not press hard through the hills. He knew he had the speed at the end if he could wait it out and he did.
Thanks chris. Between having to "tow the barge" and the nature of the course, it seems to me that Danny Boy ran as good as any 2:09 Chicago/Berlin/London Hooverfest time trial. A bit sad to say, perhaps, but this is possibly the best American (non-KK) performance in the past few decades.
