I would assume many coaches in America use a version of Daniels or the Lydiard as a general outline for their programs. So Daniels running formula could be a primary source and if you could get your hands on any of Lydiards book they would also make a good primary source. For the African runners their are books like Trian hard win easy the Kenyan way would give an insight to how some kenyans train. Hope this helped a bit.
Back in the late 90's, a runner's world writer observed the "Kenyan Way". And detailed what when on at a Kenyan training camp. Gave workouts and how the runs when, and some great insight. It might have been when Kennedy went over there or around that time.
