I didn't see the race video yet, but it looks like Jordan Hasay was running way wide on the left-hand turns at Foot Locker, while the chase pack was cutting the corner properly. Was this the case?

she needs some lessons on race strategy. A suicidal pace = bad race.
She did take turns very wide, but a lot of that was because the course got a lot of rain. There were puddles of water everywhere. Much of those on the inside of those turns. So running on the outside was smarter.
Thanks for the conditions information. That makes her run look slightly better, but as mentioned her pacing was terrible.
I don't see why everyone thinks that Jordan's pacing was so bad...in most of her other races if you see interviews her plan is to take it out in 5:20, which she did, maybe her first 800 (2:30) was semi-fast but not to bad..

As if you qualify to teach a little girl how to run races?
Of course, if she had won, we wouldn't be talking about this. I know she likes to push early, but this time the field was obviously not impressed by her lead. They ran more evenly and two of them were able to move past her. I'll give her credit, though, for not totally folding.
On paper, she must be the fastest 1500m and 5000m runner in the field, but I guess that's why we play the games...
I watched the races from a turn at about the 1200m point on the first loop. We were all surprised and a couple of people commented on the fact that Hasay and a number of other girls took the turn quite wide and did not bother to run the tangents. When the boys' race came by they just about took the nose off my face they were so close to the inside fence on the turn.
You must have a big nose.
That's interesting. She must've decided that the better footing was her "best play" after inspecting the course during her warmup.
Can someone provide a link to watch the races?
Found the race in question here:

This video is much better for the purpose of watching Hasay. It basically just follows the leader for the vast majority:
http://www.footlockercc.com/2007/nationalphotos/girlsrace.movThanks. Can't run that one from where I am, but does it show Hasay running a different line than the two that beat her?
She certainly doesn't go out of her way to run the tangents. She spends most of the time running the middle to the boundaries, and avoiding the occasional puddle or overly muddy spot.
Most of the course seems to have a fairly narrow set of left-right boundaries though, so if she misses the odd tangent line I wouldn't say it was a huge deal. It's not it's like a road race and she's running on the other side of the road, two lanes over.
I forgot to mention that the two that beat her were part of a pack for most of the race, and were sort of running spread apart rather than single file, so only one of them could be running the favored line at any given time anyway. As to whether they ran tangents when it thinned out, It's harder to tell, since the camera stays on Hasay for the majority of the event.

I agree, the girl wanted to run under 17, a 5:18 ish would be just right for a fast pace...
Now the boys on the other hand, were out 5 -10 seconds too fast! 4:28, dumn!
Give the girl a break! Too bad she didn't win and then what would you have to say? She'd be a hero!!

She should of won though really... Not sure what she was doing out there... I dis agree with having a large lead in a quality field, you're a sitting duck..... A state meet, maybe a different story, here, but strategy
Yeah, I guess the thrust of this thread was me trying to figure out why she didn't win. She should have, IMHO, so I was just trying to dissect what happened in order to understand it.
