Two words
Ryan Hall, Meb, Kastor, Mike Granville, LB Poly, Girls HS National 1600m and 3200m record, LB Poly, Marc Davis.
Ok that was a few more than two words.
Oh WAIT Allyson Flix, LB Wilson, USC's receiving core (aka the former LB Poly track team). Stember, Bolota, That girl who is running for Oregon and ran a 4:38 mile in HS, Julia Stamps.....
And two wrap it up last time I check the only distance runners to receive a medal last Olympics were from Cali.
how is it necessarily that much better? I can name-drop from the midwest too. Teg, Solinsky, Ritz, Broe, Kennedy, Vaughn, Goucher, Torres x2, Amy Hastings, Kara Goucher, etc.
saying that any region is obviously better or worse than another region is a sign of mental retardation. Regions are just different.
The standard responses would be, "Compare state to state" or "how many medals are in that group?"
But really, with more than 30,000,000 people, and the ability to have varied training environments in close proximities, that should be expected.
oh well it said you were replying to me. alright its all good. oh and just cuz the weather is nice doesnt mean the air quality is too huh. i lived in the 7th worst polluted area in the US and now for school i moved to the worst polluted area in the US. modesto is up there for shitty air too! so enjoy your sweet air while we suck smog midwesterners!

Yeah, I guess Colorado's in the midwest now. Ok buddy, whatever you think.

Umm...they are.
http://footlockercc.com/2007/midwest.shtmlBy saying "OK buddy, whatever you think", are you referring to that guy, or EVERY OTHER PERSON THAT HAS EVER HEARD OF FOOTLOCKER NATIONALS?
Just curious. F'n j@ck@ss.
Neither of you will settle anything. You'll both still be arguing on the internet while the young guns are out accomplishing things. I'll settle it right now-when the spring rolls around you guys will still be losers.
California is to the US like the US is to the world.

I'll extend that metaphor, if you don't mind.
Everyone hates us, but everyone really wants to live here! And they would too, if it wasn't for all the assholes and nutjobs that think they're the best thing on God's green earth because they live in a nice area of the world.
Have fun with your mudslides and earthquakes and giant widlfires and people from San Francisco(and Oakland too!), Cali boy. I'll keep my snow if you don't mind.
how does that make sense. one will win, and one will lose. so shut your c0ck hole. ps- i'm younger than you probably think sooo that young guns thing doesn't really apply. i'm not an old angry guy like most people on here.
Mudslides and wildfires are largely preventable. Earthquakes (big ones) hit once every few decades. Much of the rest of the country either has freezing temps in the winter, disaster seasons every year, or both.
There aren't too many other states in which, given a few hours driving time, you can go from warm, beach weather, to big cities, to evergreen forests, to deserts, to snow-covered mountains.
If someone can name another one, I'm open to suggestions.
so what? if you're reading this and you're mexican(i am) i'm sorry, but were not the richest of people and we take up most of cali. most dont have the luxury of being any to drive or live where we want...so good try. most of us(including german) are stuck in sh!thole towns that reach 110 regularly in the summer and we might as well be breathing air out of a tail pipe. we melt right when we step out the door. can i get some central valley guys to back this up??

North Carolina is close, just take out the desert and snow covered mountains.
It's not the land that we midwesterners dislike - it's obviously beautiful country. But the people - UGGGHHHHH, what a bunch of douchebags.
Its the end of the line in a several hundred year migration west. End result: We truly are the dregs of society. Criminals, outcasts, the vain and the evil. Breeding and doing drugs.

Largely preventable, but they happen damn near every year. Earthquakes, even once every 20 years, are a bit of a sticking point for me. I haven't ever had my entire life turned upside down by a snow storm.
Define a few hours of driving time. If you live in LA or SD, its a long ass drive to Northern CA, longer than I would have to drive in. Also, Hawaii has Mountains, beaches, forests, reefs, deep-sea fishing, and loads of tourists too. Plus at least they get a volcano for their tectonic woes. Its a shorter drive from Virginia Beach to the Appalachians than it is from Los Angeles or San Bernadino to Redding. I know I'm cherrypicking, CA is a very nice place to visit, many parts are great to live in, but I dare say many people outside of California are proud of their states too.

and what does this have to do with running?
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
