What D1 colleges will take a 1720 senior thats been running for only 2 years?

Boy or girl?
If boy not many (even walk-on), none major
If girl then most/all
Is that for 2.9 or 3.0 miles?
A 17:20 5km will get your name in Track & Field News Prep list...for girls.
So, you want to be collegiate?
If you're a guy, you'd be the number 4 guy on my school's D1 team.
If you're a girl, you'd be the number 1 girl on my school's D1 team.
Not everyone D1 school has guys like Colorado and Oregon. There are quite a few D1 schools that have weak cross teams with guys running in the 17s.
Obviously, a school with a good XC team won't give a 17:20 runner a sniff. There may be some lesser DI schools out there who might allow you to walk on, provided they have room on their roster. Don't count on it though.
Just out of curiosity, why do you want to compete DI? IF a DI school actually put you on their roster, it's almost a guarantee that the coach won't be giving you much attention until you show some greater potential. Why don't you go to a smaller school where the coach might be a little more invested in your development?
I'm guessing you're asking for one of two reasons. Either A). You've already been accepted to a DI school or B). You like the idea of wearing a DI uniform and don't care if you're just a name on the roster who doesn't score points for the team. If the answer is B, strongly consider DII or D3. It might be a better experience for you.
im a guy, what is your D1 school?
is their any decent D2 teams in the ohio, indiana, Kentucky area?
You could run at my d1 school too.
We took a 17:20ish kid this year. He also ran 2:00 for the 800, not sure which is a better time.
We also had a kid right around (if not over) 18 minutes at the begining of the year. He's actually gotten a lot better since hes been here.
Find a small D1 school that has good academics, email the coach about walking on to the team next year, and get in better shape over the summer. If you ran 1720 after one or two years of xc, I'm assuming your mileage sucks (around 30-40 per week?). If thats the case, get it up over the summer and get fast.
well what are some names of these teams?
Do some research.

Look at the crappy conferences (running wise)
Atlantic Sun
Big XII
Big South
CAA
Horizon
Landmark Conference
Mid-Eastern
Northcoast Conference
Northeast
Patriot
Southern
Sun Belt
I know not all of these are D1, but at least some are.
Check the results, look at teams that finished bottom-mid of these conferences.
If you really want to run at a D1 just for the sake of saying that you ran at a D1 then there are many schools that will take you.
That said, I think that you would have a better and more fulfilling running experience running at a JC or a lower division school. If you want to run D1 and do well the best thing might be to run at a JC and then walk on.
I ran 16:20 5K as a senior in HS. I ran at a JC and then at a 4 year school out of country. I think that if I had been a 30th man on the roster of a bigger school I would not have gotten as much out of it.
what kind of subsidy/aid/scholarship would a runner get who could do about 15:50 (5km male, 20years old), if any, for any university or division?
prolly bull shit
Look outside the "BCS Football" Conferences and you'll find TONS and TONS of schools for the 17:00 5k runner because the 17:00 5k runner likely has worlds of improvement awaiting him. The only difference between D1, D2 and D3 is the amount of money they put in their athletic program. D1 has more sports and gives more money than D2 and D3 has no athletic scholarships.
Alan
which he wouldn't have to worry about anyway, really.
You are wrong. In the mid 90's, the University of Oregon had a guy on the team who's lifetime pr in the 800 was 2:04 or something when he walked on. Other U of O grads from the mid to late 90's can verify this. I don't want to put the guys name out there but he was on the team. Hell, he showed up to practice more than me and had a better relationship with Bill Dellinger than I did and I was var as a sophmore.

I don't want to get to specific with it, but it's a mid-pack school in the Sun Belt Conference.
well in 1993 i had run 16:35 for xcountry as a junior and senior and only got recruited in NY to a DIII school. I walked on and was our alternate for nationals that year when we took 3rd in the DIII nats. I ran 27:00 for 8k my fresh year in college. So, i dont' know about a 17:20, but with my experience back then i'd say no way. but train hard spring/summer and walk on...get in the mid/low 16's to have a shot! good luck
Are you oblivious or do you not look at times? look at any college times. Im not saying the kids can run for an oregon or michigan but dont say no way. There are hundreds of school where you could be a top runner. theres many schools where you could never make the top 7 squad. Just train hard and keep in contact with a coach you are interested in. Lots of miles in the summer. good luck
Is that Oregon story and urban legend? I heard the same thing when I was coming out of school in the late 80's and a couple of us thought about walking on @ UO
Moot point because more $ was on the table for hockey..
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
