CCR is 100% from California. And they should be at the top of the list at number 1 if youre going to leave them there anyway.

I knew that, but their style is SFR. And you don't get to tell me how I rank my favorites, go do your own.
Its hard not to Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers 1 and 2. Also don't forget Marshall Tucker Band and Charlie Daniels Band. Most importantly however is a modern day band The Drive-By Truckers. They have released several masterpiece albums. If you haven't listened to their Southern Rock Opera then you are doing yourself a disservice.
Drivin' and Cryin'.
In no particular order...
Allman Brothers
Drive By Truckers
Marshall Tucker Band
Whiskeytown

You must be from Atlanta. I saw them several times growing up (they sort of morphed from a sort of raucous almost-punk bar band with "Scarred but Smarter" to a more twangy rock outfit later. I talk about them around Yankees and they have no clue who they are - one of the few bands that had a hit radio-played song in one city that didn't get play elsewhere. "I'm Goin' Straight to Hell" was like a fratboy anthem in Atlanta but my New Yorker wife is very knowledgeable about music - both good and pop drivel - new little about them. I bet "Straight to Hell" would have been a top ten single in the Atlanta market only, I guess.
I saw the Black Crowes play when they were Mr. Crowe's Garden and waited in line for Drivin' and Cryin' tickets with Cris Robinson at the Cotton Club for an all ages show when I was 17 or 18.

If you really like this great music you may enjoy reading about Phil Walden of Capricorn records. Google Phil Walden or Tom Dowd.
Can't argue with that list!

kinda weird how you can the "southern rock" label, and be from canada (the band), california (doobies), england (foghat), or elsewhere.....i guess it's kind of like most of the blues-rock bands being from the other side of the pond.....
