When did this happen, and no one made a big deal about it?

Not even Nedeau can deal with the force that is Joe Eby unless you exclude him since he is an assistant.
Excuse me, that should be stated properly
Joe Freakin Eby
Gary, followed by Louie Q (you have to give him a week to train, though).

This brings up an important question. What is the distance of the race in question? So, head coaches who coach XC only, segregated into distances:400m and below: Willy Wood400m - 5000m: Bryan BerryhillSteeplechase: Robert Gary5000m and above: Eric HeinsIf we're just talking XC on Monday: Robert Gary

Mick Byrne of Iona would take the Coaches Beer Mile without a doubt with Ray Treacy a close 2nd.

I think this is a current competition. How old is he? 40s? He could not possibly hang with Gary, Barryhill, etc at this point in his life. If we want to compare PRs, that's a whole different thread.

Don't know, if there was a Miller Lite at the finish Mike Esposito of High Point could put a smack down on Steve.
What about Eric Heins-- if he's bounced back from the Trials?
Sean McCabe, asst. coach at OSU ran 3:59 at the Lancaster Mile 2 weeks ago. I doubt any other coach would beat him at that distance.
Steve Sisson at Texas might be good for a mile...though I don't think he could win it. I think he still runs, though mostly trail stuff these days. He was a pretty tough SOB back in the day.
Too bad his team didn't qualify for NCAA's. Still got a long way to go to match Vig's boys.

Erik Nedeau - sub 4 miler, bronze medalist indoor 1500m WC ('95?)
Hard to argue against Nedeau, especially if you're talking solely head coaches. He can still run a sub 4:05 right now and has pretty solid strength. Trials are a possibility next summer if he gets motivated in training. This is my vote.
OSU beats Michigan in football; Gary could run 8:45 steeple this afternoon. Case closed.
If he were still at Georgetown, I bet Coach Gags would be a strong contender.
mark wetmore hasnt missed a day of running in like 30 years..so i bet he is pretty fit by now!!

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
