Lynn, if you're reading this, please don't take my criticism too harshly I'm just looking for some honest answers. You can understand that, right? Oh, and will you marry me?

For the record, as a result of the little prank that someone is playing (in an obvious effort distract people from the real issue) I have changed my name to canada78 (which is a registered name).
As you will see, this effort to silence the people who truly care about running will not succeed. I am even more committed to properly addressing this matter. While I will continue to ask reasonable questions and provide whatever relevant information that I find on this board, it is time to also take start asking these questions beyond this board.
Hopefully Ms. Petronella will finally answer the reasonable questions (or will remove the factually inaccurate statements regarding her running background from her website, amazon.com and youtube).
Nice try. Why so angry? Just because I outed you with your prank? Again, nice try but your attempts and mimickery are not appreciated by anyone so give it a rest already.
What the hell is going on here? What is wrong with you people??
School's out. There's re-runs on TV. It's wintertime in Canada and it looks like some kids have a little too much time on their hands.
Let's get back to the subject at hand, Lynn Petronella.
"I always turn to the sports pages first, which records people's accomplishments. The front page has nothing but man's failures."
-Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren
What page do believe Lynn Petronella belongs on?
Maybe she's related to Frank Abagnale, Jr. or can empathize with him.
"Integrity is not a 90 percent thing, not a 95 percent thing; either you have it or you don't."
-Peter Scotese
If you saw her in the lobby of the Sheraton Waikiki at the USATF Convention selling and signing copies of her book what would you say to her? What questions would you ask?
If she popped up at a bookstore in your area or at
P.F. Chang's Rock 'n" Roll Marathon Expo in January how would you react?

She's simply selling something that you wouldn't ordinarily buy, but because she is inflating her resume' and misrepresenting her background and credentials she is laughing all the way to bank.

Why do you think she didn't use her name or Joan Benoit's name in her vanity press book? The below description of her book (found on her website) clearly takes the position that the book is a factually-based account of her involvement in Benoit's victory. Could the answer be that she was concerned about a lawsuit? Ms. Petronella, is there another answer?
With wit and candor, Lynn Petronella, former world class runner and l980 Olympic contender traces the roots of her history and her interest in running and gives us a true picture of the behind the scenes look at what it was really like to be a part of the historical quest for the first woman's Olympic Gold medal in the first ever woman's Olympic Marathon in Los Angeles ...
Great post everyday philosophy I agree 100% and couldn't have said it better myself!
The following two statements are found on the same page of the vanity press company's website Ms. Petronella paid to have her book published:
1) 50% OF THIS BOOKS PROCEEDS WILL GO TO BENEFIT THE ATHLETTES FOUNDATION
2) 20% of ALL PROCEEDS from this Book and all ATHLTETTES commercial products from clothing, to cards and film will go towards that end to make America a better place to live.

By the way, I am very impressed with the professional quality of the advertisement used to sell Ms. Petronella's book (mentioned in my last message). Ms. Petronella (or the company she retained to sell her book) can't even bother to proofread the advertisement - usually a good sign that the book will be terrific. In addition to the little problem of not knowing how much of the book's "proceeds" will go to her "foundation" (is it 20%, 40% or 50%?), at one point her foundation is "Athlettes" and on the same page it is "Athltettes". Given our knowledge of Ms. Petronella's writing, is it unfair to suggest that she wrote this passage?
from that strange exchange yesterday where someone hijacked Canada77's identity I believe it is a good demonstration of where lying affects everyone and should concern everyone.
Everyday Philosophy, you forgot this one...
"All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing."
-- Edmund Burke
Has anyone contacted the Arizona Republic's editors about Lynn Petronella's lying to make a buck?
Since she is Athlettes.com where you find this hysterical declaration...
"ATHLETTES stands for...Let's run,
Let's swim,
Let's win...LET'S REBUILD AMERICA!!!"
it doesn't matter that it says 50% is going to Athlettes, the figure is probably 100% because if she is a 501(c)3 non-profit registered with the IRS then she isn't paying any taxes, only personal income tax on the wages she pays herself.

"ATHLETTES stands for...Let's run,"
WOW!! She created the Lets Run website too!!!!!!!

Why would she do this? What is in it for Patti to deny knowing Ms. Petronella? Another poster suggested that Patti's memory is suspect - while I can't speak to whether or not that is correct, if the poster is right about her mmory, that has nothing to do with "credibility". That is reliability issue.
Well, I DO know her to the point that our kids are pen pals. The negative comments about Patti by a couple of posters on this thread are bullshit to the point of being slanderous and deserve no further response.
And I know a thing or three about slander.
A lot of us know Patti Dillon, like her and count her as a friend and those (POS) comments about her were very insulting, but I believe that would be libelous, not slanderous and if that person dared to come out from behind their anonymous post they may find that there's more than a few people that would like to punch them in the nose.
Would the USOC have something to say about Lynn Petronella?
From her website.......
http://www.athlettes.com/mission.htm
She says.......
Petronella is a world class marathon runner, trainer, sports journalist, author, poet, playwright, organizer, fundraiser extraordinaire, spokesperson, consultant to the United States Olympic Committee and many other roles focused on
empowering women.
Runamook, tell us more. as a runner from that era, I enjoy the stories.

Except that you're wrong about the libel and slander. Wanting to punch someone in the nose is not sufficient proof. Don't believe what you see posted here, read Audain's book and maybe you'll want to punch both her and John L. Parker in the nose, too.
There is an excellent article, written by Kenny Moore, about Joan Benoit in the January, 2008 issue of R.W. Strangely, given Ms. Petronella's close friendship with both the author and the subject of the article, Ms. Petronella's name does not appear anywhere. As we know, Ms. Petronella was the person who convinced Ms. Benoit that she could win the Olympic gold medal in 1984. Another outrageous snub of the favorite to win the 1980 Olympic gold medal.
This one is worth repeating because it is so outrageous (from Ms. Petronell's website):
Written by Lynn Petronella ex- world class marathoner (expected to win the first woman's marathon in l980 when it was boycotted )
Lynn Petronella went on to coach Joan Benoit to be the first woman in history to win the Olympic Gold Medal in the Marathon in Los Angeles in
l984...
Does this passage from one of Ms. Petronella's poems provide profound insight into the author's character?
"I am a woman who has goals and dreams- I can even be devious and make business schemes.
Sounds like the old AAU
As if there could be any doubt, the attached link demonstrates that Ms. Petronella's claim that she was the favorite to win a gold medal in the 1980 Olympic marathon is false (I appreciate that there was no marathon for women in the Moscow Olympics-that fact just makes her claim even more bizarre).
Ms. Petronella's best time in the marathon (from 1978) would have been 5 minutes slower than the 205th fastest time in the world in 1980. It is important to point out that many times from that year were not included because of course measurement issues (including all NYC Marathon times).
Ms. Petronella's P.R. would have been somewhere between the 300th-400th fastest time in 1980.
Ms. Petronella, given this fact, would you please explain why you assert that you were the favorite to win the (non-existent) Olympic marathon for women in 1980?
I look forward to your answer.
