I have an ex phys question:
Is it better to do 4 x 1 mile repeats and/or 6 x 1000m repeats at current race pace, a little faster than race pace or as fast as you can (as long as you can finish the session)? We usually have 3 min. rec for 4 x mile and 2 min. rec for 1k repeats.
I've gotten differing opinions from my coaching staff and could someone point to some literature on the matter? I have one coach telling me that we get better by training at our current race pace and/or a little faster and that we should reduce our recoveries to improve fitness. He does advocate cut downs but not significantly faster. He suggests that adaptation to a certain pace is better achieved in this manner.
My other coach says that we should run the sessions as hard as we can as long as we can finish the session standing up and not barfing all over the place. Guess who the head coach is?
Thanks
