I feel the same way about buddhism. It seems like they have it right by desiring nothing, acheving harmony with their environment, meditating to raise their spiritual awareness, and all that. But ultimately, what good does it do anyone else if you are holed up in a monestary in the mountains of China somewhere and just sit around in silence all day thinking about grasshoppers and lotus blossoms? I mean, it makes for some cool settings for kungfu flicks and 311 music videos I guess.
But if I go back and follow the line of reasoning I had on the Scandanavia thread, happiness and innerpeace are paramount to power and influence. So maybe Buddhism would be a good way to go. Maybe that's why the Dalai Lama doesn't go all over the world preaching to people and trying to influence them to change over to his way of perceiving life. He just lives his life and offers guidance and blessing to those who come to him and ask for it.
That's so different from the way most people go about "being helpful". As soon as they think that have the right answer to life's questions, they go around shoving it in people's faces saying "Change or Else!!!" Is that really what life should be about?
