I'm a junior in HS with 5k CC time of just under 17 min. For some reason, I've always wanted to do a spring marathon before track season. Either way, I plan on bumping up my mileage to avg 60-70 mpw for my winter base, hopefully building to the 80s with a 15-20mi long run and a tempo run each week. If I did a marathon, it would be at the latest in early April, right around when track starts. Would it be a bad idea to do a marathon, if the big races are in late May/early June? Also, could I feasibly run under 3:00 with 3-4 months of 60-80 avg mpw, without ruining my track season?
