Steve, I know you're still reading this thread since you posted once and I know you come to letsrun, but my advice is to not bother defending yourself on here. I once read something like, "Never argue with an idiot; They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience." I feel the same thing will happen here.
Good job though.
Magness is a mystery to many. How can somebody run 4:01 in high school and not repeat it 5 years later?
It is not unreasonable to expect at least 3:55 from Magness by now. Falcon and Spivey ran 4:10+ in high school and were already at sub 3:50 5 years out of college.
Still, he has accomplished more by running 4:01 than most people on this forum. It is just people expected him to be at least as good as Stember by now.
Come to Rutgers Magness they could use you.
It is better to be a flash in the pan than never a flash at all.
Wow, I just came up with that. I am clever.....
I refined it.
It is better to be a flash in the pan than never have flashed before.
It is better to have been a flash in the pan than to have never been in the pan at all.
It is better to have been a flash in the pan than to be flashed by a man.
the form issue:
I've worked on my form. I continue to work on my form. It's not perfect, but it's not bad either. I trust my coach knows what he's doing as opposed to an internet lurker. If you want to post what you think is wrong based on a video where all you see is front shots and one side shot from a distance, go for it. I'll gladly discuss it with ya.
Could someone please explain exactly what defects there are in Steve's form. I see none.
Steve, would you ID your form coach, and what adjustments he has recommended.
Thanks.
Steve's form looks no different than any other sub 3:45 1500 meter runner I have seem. It is certainly a lot better than his 4:30 miler critics. Somebody is trying to give him a complex.
Ignore the fools and just run a sub 3:40 1500 to shut them the hell up.
Gabe Jenning's form was far stranger than anything I have seem from Magness, and he has run 3:35 for the 1500!
To be honest I saw nothing wrong with his form on that video. Maybe it was made by a hyper critical track fan.
What is with all the homosexual references I see on this forum. Is there a gay subculture in US distance running.

Only someone named Tom Tellez.
Who does Steve run for?
I want him to transfer to our team. Good training partners!
Tom Tellez, wow, how far does Steve long jump?
How old is Tellez?
Tellez has coached carl lewis and many other olympians as well.
I believe in his earlier earlier years Tellez started out with Distance runners, he is a man that has helped in several different event areas....
Steve could probably confirm this....
steve magness steve magness steve magness. he is an interesting guy, but his head is so hard he will never progress as a person until he realizes isnt a starshine sent from heaven.
it is just like him to put up a defending post. that is retarded. no elite runner would EVER do that, but magness is always trying to be a \\\"normal guy\\\" and grace us with his presents.
the bottom line is, magness is a big talent and a big washup. everytime people critisize him he goes on his period and runs off his mouth trying to tell them off.
STEVE, SERIOUSLY: I LOVE YOU MAN. I WANT YOU TO DO GOOD. GET FASTER. QUIT TRYING TO PLEASE EVERYONE AND LOOK FOR PEOPLE TO KISS YOUR ASS AND JUST RUN A PR FOR HEAVEN SAKE.
whats the big deal? i mean it dosnt matter if you run 35 or 28 at region... you are still a child who refuses to grow up.
ps. steve magness also refuses to get a real coach and really buy into any program or really believe in anything he is doing unless he chooses everything. the reason is because he does not trust anyone but himself and will not allow any coach a real chance at making or breaking him.

It's not a good example, but at least it is one.
Cabada defends himself on the boards all the time. He's got an american record. He's elite. Busts that theory.
umm..anybody got any sara hall workout videos?
seriously-
he isn't god's gift. If I could just...man that pisses me off how these spoiled ass american kids, boys and girls, these steve magness/A.J acosta type kids, and the girls...oh my god 17:10 is not FAST. Neither is 4:48.
American kids are the most spoiled, sheltered little bitches I have ever come across. Steve Magness is the epitome of that bullshit, training alone like he's god, acting like he's god, and so on. AJ acosta would be in the same place if he weren't but a little bit smarter than Stevey, with a better guidance.
These Dyestat kids, come on here, and think a 4:01 1600 is something magic, like we should all bow to that runner for the rest of his life. Please...get real.
I wonder how many 12 Year old Kenyans run 4:01. I mean c'mon really guys, theres a reason why Webb can't even win the world championships off a 3:46 mile. America needs to pull its collective head out of its ass in distance running, or we will fail again...and again, and again.
So far, the only runner I'm impressed with, is Ryan Hall. He's got his shit together. Webb, Ritz, and others have a long way to go. No one cares if you ran 4:01 in highschool, no one cares, get over it already. No one cares if you ran 15:09 as a 3 year old Ryan Deak...where are you now? No one cares what you did, because compared to the Kenyan child its nothing, in fact, its less than nothing. Its a joke.
Now you guys need to follow WHY runners like Hall, Frank Shorter, Wottle, and Ryun were successful, honest, and down to earth, and why runners like Webb and pre aren't.
But who do you look up to more? You look up to Pre and Webb, who failed to win anything so far. And they should have won something by now, thats the sad part. Honestly you shouldn't look up to the losers. you should look up to the winners, and Shorter, Wottle, and yes Ryun were winners. They did something for running.
lately, that seems to have been forgotten.

okay maybe that is true. so i was wrong. but magness is still can afford to realize that there is no reason for him to draw all this attention to himself by posting and stuff and making videos or whatever.
TO THE OTHER GUY: I agree with a lot of what you are saying. but webb and pre are not losers. i mean i dont really see how that is even relevent exactly. i know americans in gernal are whiney and annoying and steve magness is the worst one, but webb keeps and running his heart out. pre thought he was superman i know but i mean he used his arrogance to his advantage. magness lets the arrogence make his worse because he thinks he dosnt need to run fast anymore to impress people because he already thinks he is a superstar set in stone.
