How do you know what time to aim for in your first marathon? I'll start running again in a couple of weeks since I got a stress fracture, and I want to train for a marathon. It will be a while from now, like the end of '08 or the beginning of '09 (considering I don't get injured along the way), but I have no idea what time to go for since I haven't been at 100% fitness/hitting track PRs since 2005. My PRs aren't great (18:52 5k, 10:37 3k, 1:37ish 1/2 marathon the only time I ran one), but I would still like to run a decent time if I ever do run a marathon, instead of "just finishing." So I guess what I'm trying to figure out is how much I've lost in the years I've been injured, and how much I can expect to get back with a year or so of (hopefully) consistent training.
