I also happy to see Tinman post. He must monitor the site because he picked up the thread quickly. This is great.

Of course it matters! if he is some guy in Buckatunna, Mississippi who is coaching 22 minute 5k guys, it makes a difference. Brad Hudson knew this, which is why he grabbed on to notable names in "Boulder" - otherwise, if he was turning 37:38 guys into 37:35 types in Chickasha, OK - no one would care. But since he made >>Dathan Ritzenhein>27:35>Boulder<< he has much more street cred!

As for who he has coached, or who he is really, these things don't really matter, and only serve as a distraction. You should judge him (or anyone) by the content of the posts.
Tinman is very knowledgeable and coaches solid athletes who value his respect for their privacy.
Oh no you didant!
You did not seriously just diss the tinman, did you?
I almost can't believe it...
It matters only to those who cannot distinguish good content from bad content, objectively.
Good content is good content, no matter who says it, even if he comes from Buckatunna, Mississippi.
Bad content is bad content, no matter who says it, even if he has more street cred.
Who would refute that good athletes can be bad coaches, and mediocre athletes can be the best coaches?
Who would refute that knowledgable physiologists can be bad coaches, or that some of the best coaches don't really care about thresholds, mmols, intervals, exact pace, etc., but rather motivate by responding to human elements.
In a public forum, where nom de plumes are the norm, and anyone can impersonate anyone, it is best to judge the posts for their content (is it full of facts, solid arguments, and reasonably sound), rather than giving it false weight because of what someone typed in the "name" field.
this post should be removed as it makes sense.
Back to the question at hand..... I just ordered the book online at americandistanceproject.com and I have looked through it before.
Can you think of any reason why if your plan had been progressive up to this point and you were not to back off mileage over the last three weeks, you wouldn't run well?
It is unfortunate that posters like Acura Legend make such asinine remarks on this site. This is the reason why the many athletes, coaches and fans that use Letsrun as an excellent resource have been denied the information that "Tinman" could provided . I for one, hope he continues to avoid posting on this site and continues to provide (in private) a few of us with the type of information that has help us to succeed at coaching, in competition and in understanding the sport we love. The comment by Acura Legend was foolish.
Your comment has nothing to do with what I stated in my post.
off thread topic, but I have benefitted greatly from Tinman's advice.
I started a high school xc/track program at a small (40) student school four years ago as a volunteer. The runners I had, (seven boys, one girl) never had run xc before. We started out slow and small and none of the boys ran a 5k under 20 minutes the first year. After getting them to belive in themselves and the program I (a former college football/track guy) realized that I needed some guidance. I stumbled onto Letsrun and found Tinman. At the time he was leaving his email on his posts. I emailed him for help. He was kind enough to give some great tips and actual training programs, to someone he had never met. He also suggested starting a summer running program. Last fall the entire boy's team (seven boys, only two different from the original seven) qualified for the state championships, and the girl just missed by one position in sectionals on a sprained ankle. This year, (no girls) the boy's are all running outstanding times and that includes a freshmen. They again have a great shot at making state in a sport that four years ago did not even exist in their lives. Unlike some jackasses who whine, moan and complain, Tinman actually helps. Also, outside of the girl who landed in gopher hole and sprained her ankle, I have had no injuries in the four years. We run hard/easy, we do a lot of tempo runs, and the lads have become devotees of running. I also have had four academic all staters and 10 young men and a young lady whose life experiences have been greatly improved because of Tinman. For those of you who have nothing better to do than to b***h and moan, you should ask yourself if you've ever improved the life of a stranger(s) just by helping out. I hope Tinman continues to post.
Pretty much my experience as well.
Tinman has helped a bunch of people as evident from the testimony of a lot of folks who post on here. Whether or not they've won Olympic medals or broken world records is beside the point. The recipients of his help appreciate it. Period.
The idiots with chips on their shoulders who knock Tinman aren't helping anyone on here with their posts.
