If they'd made it a 6 mi., they could have eliminated the only uphill on the course - then it would have REALLY been fast!

They(Spira)is so far out of touch that they have zero credibility. They run a race on a course that is not acceptable for records to promote their shoes, and restrict prize money to only those wearing their shoes. I wonder if they have a USATF Sanction - the only part of the entire story that may be illegal is their own restrictions. This is one for the lawyers.
PLUS- their shoe(s) are not banned. The IAAF is in the process of researching many shoes to see if any of them provide an unfair advantage. And USATF follows the lead of the IAAF in such matters.
Hillary Kimaiyo ran 26:01.
Eddy H was 7th won the masters in 30:28
So you're impressed with a drug cheat!!!!! He has no integrity. Where he is for all the other races around the country? Oh that is right, they may piss him if he breaks any records and he wouldn't want that.
Eddy go back to your rock in NM or better yet. Go back to Europe and cheat over there.
This is pretty funny reading about this. I grew up and ran distance in El Paso in my high school years. I spent many a summer before cc season working out on Transmountain drive. However, we worked it hard UP the mountain. The idea of racing a 10k on the downhill side is ridiculous. I can't imagine how fast it would have been if you would put someone like Haile in there. 24:30 ??? I know Hillary is a 1:03 1/2 guy so he's for real but C'mon. Only in El Paso could this happen.
About a year and 1/2 ago I went there to visit some family and saw Spira actually had a retail store in the Airport. I figured I'd pick up a pair. Big Mistake. Worst shoes I have EVER,EVER,EVER had. Within a couple days of running in them my right hip started to hurt real bad. I'm not a heavy guy either. The pain started to move down and the next thing I know I'm in physical therapy after seeing a sports doctor. He concluded what I knew. It was the shoes. I did nothing different in my routine. Went to Athletico for physical therapy and tossed the Spira's in a goodwill-type box. Somewhere in the streets of Chicago there is probably a homeless guy complaining about those shoes!
I seriously can't began to explain how bad these shoes even felt from day 1. Switched back to the New Balance 826 and never had another problem.
People looking for a good hill workout run UP Transmountain Drive. Just don't do it in Spira's!
