I've got my first cross country race of the season on Saturday and I'm in two minds as to whether to cut my training down this week or train right through the race. Due to an injury, I've only had 3 weeks of proper winter training and it's been pretty tough. So far my week's mileage has gone: 28, 30 and 37, all the highest I've ever done, and I'm wondering whether I should maintain it, with the result being that I go into the race feeling not fresh, or cut it back down to 28 but lose the consistency in my training. Would cutting it down this week give my body the chance to adapt from the hard 3 weeks I've put it through and allow me to feel the benefits of increased endurance? Also, I've been running a steady 5 miles on a Tuesday and 6 miles on a Thurdsday, with hard workouts sandwiched in between, if cutting it down how should I change this setup, run usual on the Tuesday and not at all on the Thursday or rest tommorow and do an easy 4 miles on the Thursday... any input will be appeciated, thanks.
