After seeing Gharib reach out and try to elbow/push back Ivuti I'm glad Gharib got pipped.
What are some of the most famous or your story about impeding.
I don't have one, usually my knock-kneed stride and floppy feet were enough.

Geb and Tanui collided in 93 WC. Also the Morrocans in the 92 Oly 10k.
The Mehdi Baala 1500 semi at 2006 WC
I've watched the video and I don't see a deliberate attempt to impede. I see the reflex action of someone trying as hard as possible to drive himself forward across the finish line.
I was cheering for Gharib till I saw him trying to hold Ivuti back. On the telecast yesterday it was pretty obvious. I am glad it came out the way it did in the end, no controversy about that. Those were the most crazy finishes I think I have ever seen in a marathon-awesome.
You're wrong, as is the OP. He wasn't trying to impede Ivuti, he was just holding his ground - a straight line - as Ivuti was trying to cut in front of him. Ivuti didn't have a choice as the idiot tape-holder was in the way. Since the finish line is the WHOLE length of the mat - the Tape-holders either need a longer tape or get the frick out of the way when the athletes are barrelling down on them!! What hell would have broken loose if Ivuti had actually run into the tape-holder, which he almost did anyway.
This was made even more stupid in the women's race when neither athlete actually went through the tape!! Adere did the correct thing be completely ignoring the tape, making the holders look like idiots in deciding which woman (on either side of the course) was actually going to win!!
Oh, I'm sorry. You are absolutely right, I am wrong. He stuck his arm out in an effort to hold him back. I guess that does not technically qualify as impeding.
I am right about this, however - YOU are a moron.
Dude, watch the video and become enlightened. Watch it 20 more times if you can't figure it out after one time.
Yeah, I guess it's just coincidental that only his left arm was up and pushing against Ivuti, who was on a collision course with the official. Ivuti makes no move right until he breaks the tape, well after Gharib's arm starts going up and out. It was a pussy-ass move by Gharib and I'm glad he got nailed.
Gharib's about three inches from the center yellow lane marker after the bend in the road. At :40 on the video he's still within about a foot. But in those final eight seconds they've drifted most of the way across the lane and to the extreme edge of the tape. Heck, the outside tape holder actually takes a step back and extends his arms with a couple seconds left to try and avoid a collision.
Sure looks to me like an attempt to impede Iwuti.
Adere did it right. She was stalking and sneaky the whole way and did her kick in high fiving idiot's blind spot and used the two guys to screen her. The ball cap and her height also helped. She ignored the tape and kicking across beside her as a sneak attack.
