2/3 of letsrun poll takers (including me) said geb would not break the WR in berlin.
should we believe 1/3 or more of what is written on the forum?

Haha.
I said YES!!!
I think it's funny, all the 430-bashing and glee going on today, yet, 2/3 said NO. What gives? :)
If the poll had said CAN geb break the record, more people would have voted yes. But it said WILL geb break the record at berlin, too many things that could go wrong to prevent it. I'm not surprised, I just thought there was a higher chance it wouldn't happen.

because we hate the430miler but we didn't think we'd see a WR, not that hard to understand really. I'm happy as hell Geb did it but I did doubt him I will admit especially since I thought he would get it on the first try but did not.
I was one who voted that he would not do it today but my reasoning was that i heard the weather wasn't going to be perfect, but it was. I knew that he would do it one day. It was just a matter of time.
although his prior attempts have been efforts only a few could match, i have wondered if he would master the event. no doubt now.
I voted yes for a few reasons,
-Good course
-Good pacers
-Supposed to be good weather
-Geb has come off a string of great races including his impressive 1 hr WR, and his VERY impressive 59:24 half on the tough NYC course
-MOST IMPORTANTLY, there wasn't TOO MUCH hype about it, it wasn't deemed "the greatest field ever assembled" or anything like that, little pressure,
In my mind he had everything going for him. If he was going to do it, this was a great time and place to do it, so I voted YES.
well thought out, excellent points , especially the hype factor.
Breaking the old WR wasn't going to be a walk in the park. If anyone could do it, it was almost certainly going to be Geb, but the tiniest miscalculations or problems would throw even the best runner off sub-WR pace. There was probably a pretty high probability that he wouldn't set a WR at any given race, although it would be more likely that he would set one sometime, somewhere.
he's 34 isn't he? a long career, wear and tear and an unpredictable event. i thought he would miss the WR by coming to the marathon late in his career.
Who was closest to 2.04.26. I had 2.04.12.
