It is my senior year. I'm working really hard to keep my grades up and I try to obey the rules, but since last year the rules have gone nuts! We have to go to 'homeroom' now during the second half of our lunch hour to learn about future job investment and health and fitness and social stuff and all that. We used to be able to the gym and hang out or play basketball when we were done with lunch, but now we have to do stuff that we usually learn in class. That gives us about an hour more instructional time per day than required by state law!
We have these two ladies, both assistant principles, patroling the halls. Girls are no longer allowed to wear skirts or shorts ABOVE THEIR KNEECAPS! They have even applied this rule to the staff!
This is ridiculous. I want to do something about it. The teachers don't realize that the social time we had was way more important than what we do in 'homeroom' now. We are one of the fattest states in the nation (WV) and they are CUTTING DOWN on physical activity by not allowing us to have free time at lunch. Our school spirit has gone way down, but still these two rule-freaks run the school as if we were cattle or sheep.
What are our rights? Does the constitution protect the student's right to not be searched without a warrant? Do we have free speech, freedom of assembly, or any other constitutional rights in school? How can I fight this tyranny get us more freedom? Please help!
