So what do you guys think - who would be your vote for the most inspirational runner or endurance athlete?
Marla Runyan? Billy Mills? Terry Fox? Dick/Rick Hoyt?

For me, it's a toss up between Terry Fox and Ed Whitlock.
If we are talking strictly about elite runners who are not over 75, I'd have to go with Haile.
Meb Keflezighi
I mean come on - to escape a war-torn and poverty stricken country (Eritrea) to then go on to graduate from UCLA and win an olympic bronze medal?
My vote goes to Meb
I saw that Dad, that races for his son in all the triathlons, that real inspiration. Cause that someone that we should look up to giving everything up, to make his son happy. It people like him who should be call hero's or inspirational, not cause you a top althete in the world
I gotta go with JIM MACLAREN
Football player who go hit my a car and lost a leg. Then set like every amputee triathlon and marathon record. Then, during a triathlon gets hit AGAIN by a car - and is now a paraplegic.
Instead of giving up and pitying himself he has dedicated himself to motivating others with disabilities and young athletes/runners. he won an ESPY a year or two ago too.
here is a review of his DVD "The Jim MacLaren Story":

and an interview with him to listen to:
MILLS without a doubt
Not even a question...
Lance Armstrong
Dick Beardsley
Dean Karnazes
End of thread!!
Gilbert Tuhabonye has a pretty amazing and inspirational story.

Top five:
1) Mark Allen
2) Dave Scott
3) Scott Tinley
4) Lance Armstrong
5) Ron Jeremy
When I saw the title of this thread I immediately thought of Dick Hoyt. I was then very happy to see you mentioned him in your original post.

Another vote for Dick Hoyt.
Terry Fox takes the cake in this one.
What he did was remarkable.
