A few months ago, I spontaneously began peeing blood (hematuria) after running. This had never happened before, but after some research I wrote it off as a runner thing. But it kept on happening after every run. Even 15 minute runs. And it got worse. I got it checked out because I didn't want to become anemic.
Turns out I had stage 1 bladder cancer. This was shocking because
1) I am only 22 and bladder cancer usually occurs in people over 60. I was the second 20ish person my doctor had ever seen in all his years of practice that had this happen to them.
2) It's MUCH more common in men and I am a woman.
3) It usually occurs in smokers and I don't smoke.
Because it was caught so early, it hadn't spread at all and was easily removed. I go every 4 months to be rechecked via cytoscopy. That was a month ago and I was fine.
But now it's happening again and I'm scared. I never truly stopped having hematuria but it was always after 12 milers and it wasn't much. But it's getting worse and it takes only 30 minutes to cause it.
Should I call my doc? Should I be checked again in less than a month?
