Hey Well--you are a f***ing ignorant idiot who doesn't know shit about running.

As I said before the final. The best thing Webb could do was to offer the slowest guy in the field to take him through 800m in 1.52 and pay him $10,000. Shades of EL G who had a fellow countryman perform the same service for years.
The fact is that it's very hard to win a major championship 1500. The two best American milers of all time, Ryun and Scott, never did it. Steve Ovett, perhaps the greatest miler of all time, never did it. Roger Bannister, the first sub-four-minute miler, couldn't get it done. It took both Morceli and El Guerrouj two tries at the Olympics to win gold, and they are perhaps the two most dominant milers ever. So let's put this in perspective. It would be very disappointing if Webb finished his career without a major championship medal, but as far as winning gold, that's a real crapshoot.
PEEEEE OHHHHH DEEEEE !!!!!!

It is pointless sending messages on here but sometimes you just have to. How many of you can run a 3:46 mile, make a final of a major world championship, run with guts from the start of the race..did pre 'fold' in the 1972 Olympic 5000m final...he fought hard all the way to the line and he got 4th. Webb busted his ass all the way to the finish and finished 8th among 7 other men who went through the semi's and still ran 3:35 or better. He had a great year. Props to Lagat. His sister was on my collegiate cross country team (Evelyn) and know his family is ecstatic but webb didnt fold anytime this year, nor in the final.
Nate you are 100% correct. However the delusional Webb crack heads refuse to accept the truth that Webb IS NOT THE BEST 1500M runner in the world. He is as good as his finish in the WC Final. About 8th... Webb is in the top ten in the world; where he will probably be the rest of his career, an amazing feat indeed. He will, however, never be #1. He is the Steve Scott of the 21st century. He has no reason to be ashamed. He should continue to compete and collect the nice pay check from Nike to do so.
Better a tough crowd, even a crowd with some idiots, then a bunch of artificial, worshipping, regime-like bumlippers willing to protect and cradle a loser no matter what. Anyone who is in a WC final is obviously a WC top runner and deserves some respect. This said, the criticism, even if harsh, even if gratuitous, if he/she has character it should be an incentive...Webb should come here, post and give everybody a piece of his mind and then proceed to run more of his buns off, because this is what he says he wants to do. Is it not?Run Webb. Run your heart and lungs out. Run your feet off. You are not me. You are not even a small part of the people here. You are effing (excuse partial expletive) Alan Webb. And do well. Silence those you think are idiots if you have the inclination to do so. Ignore them if you will. In any case, show what you can do to be the best at the next race. At the next workout. Go Webb, GO!Real athletes have got to be tougher than tough. Otherwise go get a job at the post office. Extremely dignified to say the least. But a whole different life.

Webb ran a smart race and gave 100%. it just wasn't enough on the night.
This is a tough crowd.
The answer tothis question was told in his interview right after his race. He didn't have a plan. For my pinio of what happened/why; plus, what I feel he must do immediately can be found in the folder named "WC Highlites and Other Video Shorts" at:

I'm kinda wordy which is why I won't waste space here. This may give you some seeds for thought

And yet the excuses keep a coming...
He ran as good as he possibly could have. No better.
shalane set 2 american records this year and finished the same as webb at worlds - why isn't anyone saying she folded?
