Given all the catfighting on this thread, I just want to ask: Why do some of you continue to run at all? There was the "many of us work hard, we deserve respect too" crowd earlier, the "Kara is not a Bronze medal-worthy athlete" contingent, the "you must be doping if you succeed" group, etc.
So what is it that drives the average high school, college, and post-collegiate runner to wake up everyday and continue striving to improve in the sport? You must dream to be in an Olympic or World Championship someday, just like the rest of us have over the years on a long training run. If you had any success that remotely resembled Kara Goucher's bronze medal, you would receive this type of response FROM YOUR RUNNING PEERS, the only people who actually follow the sport. So what is the point of training then for you young, average-to-above-average runners, given this is the response when you achieve that elusive dream you all have dared to pursue?
This is a serious question, not meant to debate or undermine anyone's points above.
