Who's Wilbon?
I've long thought that "Chariots of Fire" was a sentimental, overblown period piece, anyway. For years after it was released, we had to live with that godawful music at the start of every big road race.
I'm not a particular fan of "Chariots of Fire," but that's a dumb comment by Wilbon, whom I generally like.
I could imagine that what he actually could have meant was that to him, Chariots of Fire was not a sports movie.
Consider the three following movies:
The Longest Yard
Jerry Maguire
Buffalo '66
I think that most people would consider only the first two to be sports movies. But, actually considering the main plot of each movie, the role of football in Jerry Maguire is much closer to that in Buffalo '66 than in The Longest Yard.
If poker is a "sport" -- ESPN shows for so it must be -- then running in a movie is a sport, even if it's faked. Anyone remember "The Jerico Mile"?
