Does anyone find this quote to be a bit cocky, and on par with the infamous quotes of runners like Mottram? I mean, Merritt has never beaten Wariner, Wariner is in the best shape of his life right now and is the undisputed favorite in Osaka. Yet Merritt sounds so certain that he will dethrone Wariner, claiming that he is ready to go sub 44. GREAT! You have the race of your life and dip under 44 by a tenth or two and you think that will be enough to beat Wariner? Wariner may be shooting for a WR in Osaka. I suppose it's good that Merritt has confidence and that he'll be racing for gold. But he's not giving Wariner enough respect.
I think Merritt will PR in Osaka. But so will Wariner. And Wariner will be untouchable.
