What do you all think of the new Mondo Poll?
What do you all think of the new Mondo Poll?
how exactly does voting work? for instance, why is michigan state ranked 15th in the country and ranked 7th in their region? or why is wake forrest receiving points when virginia who is ranked above them in their region not? regardless, next weeks polls should be a lot better and more accurate as there are some big meets this weekend.
The last 3 polls have all more or less been preseason polls. Very few teams have run full squads at competitive meets yet. Next week is the real beginning. With that, expect the new Beat Poll to be our after next week or the following week. I may hold it off a week to include the Indiana St and Notre Dame Invites. Either case, it will be on www.run-insight.com only, as I know write for them.
Re: the Mondo D-I men's poll
Each regional ranking, by the representative for its region, is a guideline for the other 14 voters, but there is no obligation for them to rank teams in the same order, or even rank a team at all. Michigan State, for example, didn't run its third man last weekend and some voters MAY have taken that into account in ranking MSU where they did nationally. Most voters had Stanford first, but some others went for Colorado or Arkansas. It's a matter of opinion.
After Griak, Notre Dame, Pre-nats and other major meets over the coming weeks, you'll see things shake down a bit more. But keep in mind that 15 different voters from different parts of the country will never see things exactly the same.
As I said in a post last week, the poll is primarily a device to get publicity for teams in a sport that is often overlooked.
