Good recap of Teg and Solinky's seasons and what they have left for the season:
Very good recap of their seasons and todays race!
This race looked to be very good experience for Teg in a race like he will have to run in Osaka prelims!!!
Agreed, a great finishing place in a race with erratic pacing.
These are the types of races that will give him the confidence he needs come Osaka. . .
I think that he makes the Osaka final and from what I have seen over the last two summers, there is no reason to think that he can not be in the top 7-8 in the final!!! That will be a great accomplishment and give him some experience for the Oly games!!!
Good article and good race for Matt today; I want to agree that he will make the final in Osaka, but so much is dependent on being in the correct heat, correct position when the pace picks up, staying on your feet, etc. Matt is gaining valuable experience in Europe and seems to be coming along nicely!!! From a fan who saw him develop as a youngster, I wish him the best of luck!!!!!
Teg has a good chance (but as the old U.S. distance fans know,it will be tough) I think that he has a decent chance in the heat that runs more of an honest pace. If he gets into a very slow heat that turns into a huge kick, then Teg may be in trouble (unless he realizes early enough that he has to push the pace)
It's a shame what happened to Sullivan and Solinsky.
Sullivan might very well have set a national record had he not gone down. I figured that he would be somewhere around Tegenkamp. He and Tegenkamp had a great race back in January when they ran an indoor 3000. Sullivan won in 7:40 and change with Tegenkamp a hair behind. Sully just got him with an explosive kick over the last 10 or 20 meters. It was a fun race to watch.
Yes, I was at that race in Fayetteville and it was an excellent race!!! Solinsky and Sullivan could have very well made it three non-Africans in the top 7-8!!!! Teg ran well today and would have been tough to beat, but it would have been interesting!!!!!
Teg looked the best he has looked since the 2 mile in Eugene. This looks good for his 5k chances in Osaka.
I've never counted him out. Jerry knows what he's doing to get the guys ready.
PERSONALLY, I THINK E IS BETTER THAN 7:35. HES A GREAT RUNNER, AND THIS WASNT EVEN HIS BEST RACE. GRANTED, HE CAME IN 4TH OR SO, BUT I THINK A BETTER TIME IS IN THE CARDS. MAYBE 6-7 SECONDS FASTER. LATER.
Looking at the prize structure, he lost $6000 going from 2nd to 4th. Tough break when it comes down to a matter of tenths of a second.
Good race nonetheless and it should be fun in Osaka.

who said anything about being injured?

You did talk about doing damage. Have you forgotten? A 3k race doesn´t do any damage. We´re not talking about a marathon here.

Totally agree. Very encouraging to see him run fast like that.
Jerry is very good; he is nevertheless in "uncharted waters"; any developing coach will "trial and error" to a certain extent at this point in their "elite ventures". I respect him immensely, but please understand that he by no means has it all figured out!!!!! I wish he, Teg, Solinsky, Riley, Bairu, etc. the very best! I am so sick and tired of everyone thinking that somehow going to Oregon or Stanford or Arkansas or Boulder is the only answer to distance success. Schumacher and Webb's coach are blowing that one out of the water!!!!! I hope that they both continue to "figure it out" and show everyone that training in "dreamland" is not necessarily going to make you an Olymian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i'm curious what tegenkamp's splits were- especially the last 1000m.
Is there a video of the race. I can't veiw the one on the home page.

Considering his other 5k runs a 13:15 is probably the condition he is in. I don't think he has even broken 13:20 this year. Remember, Broe had the American indoor 3k record and never run faster than 13:15 for a 5k.
Colin Sahlman runs 1:45 and Nico Young runs 1:47 in the 800m tonight at the Desert Heat Classic
