Has XC actually been cut from the UCF program? Rumor is that the top senior on the team received a letter from the AD stating that the program would be cut completely next year and that they were iffy on funding it this year? Any truth to this?

As an alumni of the team, this situation pisses me off. I don't know facts but it looks like the distance program is being phased out. It make me wonder how all the people complaining about Marcia feel now(I agree she had some issues but I think most thought there would be another distance candidate that would replace her). If she would have never lost her job, the distance programs would probably be safe.
The AD obviously thought since there isn't a full mens track team that he might as well cut the xc to give more scholarship money to girls track/football, etc.
-it sucks for instate high school kids that would consider UCF b/c it's a fun school to be at
Marcia ruined it for all of us....but now UCF will be a sprint power with 12 of the 18 scholarships going to sprinters.
Jenn are you the thrower that threw a fit a few years back and quit the team? If so you were as much of the problem as anyone, regardless of what coach Marcia did or didn't do!!
Jenn
I was one of your room mates you were locked up by the police for having a melt down in your bathroom b/c your roommates were mean to you!!!! get a life
joan
The new coach only wants sprints and jumps and could care less about distance runners and hates male distance runners so why would she want to spend any time with men who bring nothing to her program.

Coach Marcia didn't ruin anything her teams won 10 conference titles and she gave everyone who was willing to work hard a chance to compete. Two former walkons even earned A-Sun conference athlete of the year awards in track
Everyone got better! Ruined it she made it...you must be a spoiled girl who couln't handle competition where is your name on the record books...no where... no throwers named jenn are even on the books. the throwers were awesome and you're not one of them
many of her walk-ons went on to earn scholarships and set records
walk-on athlete
UCF? What's that, Central Florida? What a great site this is if crap programs like this one and UNCA generate discussion here.
Nice to see you on the board Marcia.

I've heard that due to Title IX issues, they can't add a men's track team right now. But if they cut men's XC, would they be able to? Is that their plan maybe? A track team can potentially draw from and (somewhat) support members from the football team and other sports, where XC normally can't...
From the outside I believe the former coach should have cut a whole lot more people. Too often the walk-on's are the problem. It seems all this coach tried to do was give them a chance and they cut her legs out from under her and the whole team. Something for future coaches to remember!
I thought this thread would be about the latest Ultimate Fighting Championship #90.
If they were planning on having a full mens track program they wouldn't cut the cross program, wouldn't make sense...this board is mainly distance running followers so another male distance program getting cut is news no matter how unknown the program is on the "national" level
so much for Jenn the thrower then?!
I will live on...I put alot into the program, I protected, I covered...all for not.. the b***h was just so bad.
I here ya Jenn. Let it ride. Smith- Gilbert will put it on the map. I was their second choice of course.
