WHAT??? A different attitude at RW? Say it ain't so! I'm shocked. SHOCKED, I tell you!
what was that last mile for those who are calculating?
After the big rest/cramps at mile 100, his time is 10:46 between miles 101 and 102.
If it's clear he can't even break his PR, will he DNF?
I don't have last mile, but 33:43 for last two miles. I have to go to a meeting though, so the split was 102 @ 7:29:04

he's not going to do it - at even pace 153.76 x 2/3 = 102.5
so at 8 hours to go he has to be at that distance, but he's bound to slow down even further. At his current pace he will hit just under 101 - time to go home Deano.
about 36 minutes behind schedule hope he's got a good kick
Awwwwww, Dean is really sad he's missing out on the big race this weekend. This is from his blog:
This is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing, and I’m sure it will be quite memorable. The biggest bummer, because of the timing of the treadmill run, I’ll miss the Western States Endurance Run this year, a race I always look forward to with great anticipation.
On the upside, at least I won’t need a GPS to figure out my whereabouts.309_hamster_running_wheel_hg_clr_4
Boldly going nowhere, all the best from Manhattan!
Dean
EXCUSE YOU.
You are arrogant and dense.
The point is that while many question his promotional tactics (and associated ethics) it is difficult to question the physical challenge involved in what he does. No, he is not the most accomplished ultra-endurance athlete out there, but he is pretty damned good. And no, almost no one on this board COULD do what he has done and it isn't simply because they don't want to. It takes a type of physicology, discipline, patience and tolerance for boredom (a psychological) that few even really talented hardcore runners have. Attribute it to "not wanting to" becuase the challenge isn't worthy enough, but a claim could be made that these "talents" are just too big of pansies to try.
I hate how Dean shades the truth for his own promotions and he deserves all the scrutiny and criticism for that, but that doesn't change the fact that he is a tougher runner than most. Knock Dean for his less than forthcoming ways, but don't knock what you don't understand. Get out there and try one...you'll see.
@ 7:31.0 to go he was at 101.81 and he had the treadmill set at exactly 10:00 pace at that time so that would put him at a finishing distance of 146.91.
last mile 9:40

I doubt he'll DNF. He might slow down to a crawl, but I'd be surprised if he didn't last the full 24 hours on the TM. Dean doesn't usually quit prematurely (that I know of).
Two things I admire about the guy is that he normally completes whatever challenge he marks out for himself and he manages to stay remarkably injury free (something I wish I could do).
Of course, Pam Reed is probably glad to see that he won't get this WR so she won't have to go break it.
The changed Dean from 'is America's best runner' to 'has been hailed as America's best runner'
I think it always said that.
PILLOWBITER!!!
I'm actually tempted to take the subway up to see Dean. Is it worth it? I'll bring something to throw.
is he outside?
the site says 79 degrees... and city air?
who thought that was a good idea?
does he have anything to blow air on him or cool him off?
unless he really picks up the pace, he has no chance at the record
lol he just got off the treadmill, waved to the crowd and ran into the blue tent/shitter, s he calling it a day?? =O
guys he may have called it a day...
wait no, hes back! YESS
He's looking really rough. I was sure the treadmill was going to mysteriously speed up the last few hours so he'd make it, but it looks like nothing can save him now.
Still, damn, 100 miles on a treadmill? That is a horrifying thought.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
