Thinking of doing a TM sim of HTC leg 1 / uphill - the course map shows leg 1 as 5.75m w/ 2000 ft drop from Timberline to Zig Zag - I calculate about 6.5 pct incline over 6 mi w/b similar punishment on the legs ( without factoring the CV stress due to altitude climbing ) -
I've been doing 10K on TM @ 5 pct incline about once a week - I've done HTC twice / did leg 1 in '89 and was sore for a week - I think we had the conversation in the van both times how brutal it would be to do leg 1 uphill - a nice challenge, even for slow people -
I live in Chicago now / no hills / do these workouts when my kid is taking a nap - trying to squeeze in the muscular stress of a long run in a much shorter distance - the pace on the TM is about the same a a long run w/b, but the intensity is just short of a tempo / you are always aware that you're working - I think my inspiration comes from the 21K Fluorspar Hill workouts done by the Kenyans described by Mike Sandrock in his book or M&B article - ( I am just a weekend warrior though ) -
Anyone else do these kind of workouts / or see value? I feel my legs are stronger, but maybe I am just getting better at jogging on a belt at an incline...
