Maybe all the 13:35 guys should run faster; I think it's great news for the future of US distance that this time isn't good enough.
They'll be sure to run 13:20 next time. Thanks for telling them.

Scott Bauhs is a perfect example of how the USATF is not helping anyone in this situation. A redshirt soph runs 13:40 and 28:54. He is all set to go and experience a national championship. As he stated there is no additional cost for him to run. For any previous year in the recent past his time would go. This year he gets to stay in the stands and watch. Next year is an Olympic year and USATF is missing out on giving someone additional experience at racing at a high level. Who knows what this kid is going to do in the next year or the next 5 years. As he stated he will have other chances in the future, but what is the rational of limiting the race to 19 athletes this year? Again, great job USATF at helping to develop the talent.

Pre was right - F--K the USATF! They do what they want with no regard to the athletes. No wonder the smaller seemingly meaningless meets are growing. Who wants to put up with their BS. Notice how many entries there were in the Nike National Meet in the boys 2 mile and 5k vs the JR USATF 5k or 10k? Keep doing it everyone - support your local meets, college meets, American Miler Series meets, etc, etc. USATF might get the hint someday - then again who cares if they do!
What I should have said is look at how many HS boys who ran faster than the USATF qualifier in the 2 mile and 5k did not enter the JR USATF meet. This tells me that they see the Nike National Meet "as the national championships" not the JR USATF meet. NON means more than the freaking United States of America National Track and Field Championships. A lot wrong with that - and it is all USATF's fault. Open the door USATF - you have nothing to loose.

Well said. I hadn't even thought about it like that.

Pretty sure that Pre was dead for quite a while before USATF was organized. He certainly would have said that about the AAU--compared to which, USATF is sheer athletes' heaven.
