You think he can go sub 50 for the last 400??? are you crazy??? that would be like dropping a 55 on the track- but on the road. I think he will have to come through in at least 3:03-3:05

Gary Glitter - Rock N Roll (part 2)

put that on the juke box at my local and you will get chucked out of the pub - a few days later you might get your balls back in the post.
he should go out in 3:05 to have the best chance, it's pretty flat through 3/4.
that hill is 8% down - pretty damn steep. lots of people could break 50 if they didn't care about their knees, quads, and other assorted body parts. you could hang-glide off that bad boy with a running start.
It's not the best course to try a downhill sub-4 by any means. He'll have to run on pretty terrain for most of the way, and I doubt he'll be below 3 at the 3/4. Plus Lumpkin has a pretty severe crown on it, so if he runs in the middle to avoid the sidehill, he won't be taking advantage of tangents. And there will be traffic on the road even at 1:00 AM.
That said, I think he can do it if he runs a PR-type effort. He will make up major time in the last 1/4 if he is behind pace and has any gas left in the tank. He probably can break 50 on that hill, although I think the best way to do it is 3:04/:55 and the 55 should be smooth and easy so he doesn't hurt his legs from the pounding.
Sounds like a lot of people know Athens on this board.
*pretty FLAT terrain*
I wont be able to take advantage of the tangents anyways as I wheeled it along the bike lane on the outside of the curve.
I agree that I will have to work the first 1200. but it is still on a gradual slope and should be able to hit 3:05 in decent shape. If i get there I should be able to duck under.. although it will hurt
You've got a perfect night for this attempt -- supposed to get down to near 60 by 6:00 a.m. so at 1:00 a.m. it'll probably be ~65 and the humidity is considerably lower than usual for Athens at this time of year. Dead calm too. In other words, no excuses on the weather. Good luck!
the masses require updates...
obviously a hoax or he would have put up the result, since it's obviously over.
Ummm... 1 AM happened 13 minuts ago...

ahhhh was not a hoax.. although the result was not what we were looking for. split through the first 409 in 66-67, then hit 2:08, 3:06? and then finished in 4:05... a little sad but the video is awesome. Definitly an event to get more people out for next year. And it would have help if there had been another guy in there attempting a sub 4(the other 2 runners who ran went 4:31 and 4:41).. Anyways ill post up the video when i can get it hooked up to the computer.. thanks for the support...and trust me i think u'll enjoy the video
if you were shooting for 4 minutes, why in the hell would you go out so slowly?
Sorry I couldn't get out there, I was bailing out a few of my boys. This is my regular Friday night/Sat. a.m. routine.
But how was that final quarter? Did you feel in control or was it too steep? And yeah, why the slow start?
Go Dawgs. And Finish The Drill, next time.
the 2:08 had to hurt the effort, coming back in 1:51 would have been too much even with the hill. Still, a valiant effort, and you should try it again. Maybe on a course with a more uniform downhill, not mostly flat followed by a big drop. A steady downhill gives you a good shot at sub-60 every quarter and will help your confidence during the run.
Sorry about the delay.. Ive had a hard time getting the internet to work at my house... Anyways I reviewed the tape and it wasnt as far off as I originally thought. I actually split 64, 2:06, 3:06 and finished in 4:05. The first split was also 409m. Anyways here is the footage:

...and yes that outfit was extremely hot
enjoy... and although it wasnt the best course for a sub4 min clocking it was still a great mile course, the last 450m was rolling. Hopefully more people can make it out next year.
Cheers,

.. forgot to mention that i neglected to hook up the audio when i uploaded the video, hence the overlay song... and thanks to the big wave for a pretty good race idea..

Yor outfit rocked, your cameraman sucked, and you picked the gayest song possible. God I hate that song.
You, sir, though, did very well otherwise. Try it again... you'll do it!
Haven't you seen Arrested Development?! The Final Countdown is the best tune ever!
i thought it was pretty cool. seems like you were really pushin in the last 200 or so. if you do it over again, my one request for the camera crew is to have a tripod and a light on you so we can watch you better.
the uniform/ outfit was a great idea! haha. great job!
